Making art has always been my safe space. I have painted and drawn my way through challenges and joys since I was very young and before I could read and write.
The series of Small Paintings was created in response to my husband’s death from Lewy Body Disease. He was astonishingly creative, imaginative, curious, humorous, and loving. Tragically, he gradually slipped away under that destructive disease. It soothed me to replay our life through these paintings, each derived from a snapshot of things we had seen together. The paintings are 8” X10” or 10” X12”, acrylic on canvas.
The painted silks capture the hardiness and the fragility of life, from a semi-scientific point of view. Visual structures fascinate me, and I have always had an interest in biology. Using images of microscopic elements visualized through microphotography, I capture elements of the organism’s character that become each painting’s concept.
